Real roots. Real wine. No fancy talk.
Welcome to District 33 Winery — a small, family-run vineyard and cidery tucked along the rugged shores of Jordan Bay, Nova Scotia. We're Duane and Tami Maclellan, and this all started with a wild dream and a whole lot of land.
After losing our home in the 2016 Fort McMurray wildfires, we packed up and started fresh on this 300-acre property tied to Duane’s family roots in Shelburne and Cape Island. What started as a clearing-for-the-view project turned into a full-blown vineyard — built from scratch with grit, tractors, and a whole lot of help from friends.
Our Land
Ocean air. Forest soil. Wine with a wild side.
We’re proud to be Shelburne County’s first vineyard and winery. With 5 acres of vines just steps from the ocean and 7 more growing in the woods, our grapes soak in everything this land throws at them — salty breeze, rocky ground, and wild weather. That means bold, unfiltered flavor you won’t find anywhere else.
This place wasn’t picked by chance. A 2013 climate study showed the region’s got what it takes to grow hardy grapes, and we took that seriously. Now, we’re growing L’Acadie Blanc, Marquette, Muscat, and more — all right here at the edge of the Atlantic.
Our Community
We’re not a polished tasting room. We’re your neighbours with a wine press.
We’re set along the Lighthouse Route in a place full of small-town charm, salty air, and proud history. The towns around us — Barrington, Shelburne, Lockeport — are full of makers, fishers, and people who show up for one another. That’s our kind of crowd.
This winery isn’t just for wine buffs. It’s for the curious, the cider fans, the weekend wanderers, and the locals looking for something laid back. Whether you’re coming in muddy boots or date-night shoes, there’s a glass for you here.
